Let’s Talk About It

Created By Sy Tat

We are going to talk to about that thing… you know that ugly cloud that follows us around it seems everywhere. That constant reminder that we are not good enough, not fast enough, not beautiful enough, not successful enough, the list goes on. What do others think about me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Depression is at its all time high because of the social media and news influences now more then ever.

The Influence Of Social Distancing is not as helpful as the media may have you think. In times like this being away from family and friends is the last thing we should be doing. If wearing masks around your friends is what makes it feel more safe for you specially if your high risk than do so, but do not pull away from human contact altogether. What do we have if not each other to look in the eyes without the screen and say I get it, I understand and I see you. There are more misunderstandings and separations happening now because we are bullied into thinking that only FaceTime and Social Media are the way to communicate… NEWS FLASH IT’S NOT! The amount of anger and confusion speaks volumes to this statement.

The Dangers Of Too Much Social Media has already been proven and looking around it has not been used for the powerhouse it could be. Instead it is used for bullying, misinformation and bragging about things that are not even real in peoples lives. Here’s something else that is hard to believe the photos are nanoseconds in time for that person, their child has immediately rolled around in the mud and their teenager snuck out of the house the night before and guess what they just got into a fight their husband right before the smiles were put on for that picture. The moral of this story is your family is normal, if it is full of argument and chaos then you’re normal, so show that. If more people shared their experience going through college, raising children and marriage, and oh do not let me forget being a preteen and teenager is not a walk in the park either.

This is just the introduction to this week’s discussion on depression and anxiety in the lives of people in our society today. Wednesday we will go deeper.
